在第一集的開始，我便說過這是一個真實的故事，而在真實的生活中，
不好的事情無法避免。
寫作這個系列的過程中，我一直努力依循這項聲明，讓故事順著情況發
展。因此，不像別的書裡面的主角永遠不會死，《向達倫大冒險》裡的
重要角色會依照劇情的要求而死去。在第九集《黎明殺手》中，由鬼不
理先生來面對史提，而不是由向達倫或梵加來與他決鬥，這樣的安排比
較合理（理由在書中有解釋），因此我讓他死。我並不喜歡這麼做，但
這是劇情需要這樣。
當然，我可以作弊，讓梵加代替鬼不理先生而死，或者讓他們全部活下
來，沒有人死。但是這並不是我的書想要說的。當我寫作的時候，我總
是把筆下的故事當作是『千真萬確』的事件，我不會為了擔心讀者可能
不高興，而改變我的內容安排。我想，這就是我的書和別人的書不同的
地方──讀者們永遠猜不到從這一本到下一本之間，會發生什麼事。誰
會死、誰會活，誰都沒有辦法確定──就好像在真實生活中一樣。
不，死去的鬼不理先生不會奇蹟似地重返人間。我在第十集中有說明，
他的靈魂已經飛向了天堂，永遠不會再回到這個世界。不過，或許有一
天我會寫幾本書來描述鬼不理先生早年的故事，從他第一次被授血，一
直到他與達倫和史提相遇的那個夜晚。所以囉，也許我們還有機會再看
到這位脾氣古怪的老吸血鬼呢！！！
就算死了，也要像鬼不理先生那樣，瀟灑豪邁！！！
At the start of Book 1,
I say that this is a true story,
and that in real life bad things happen.
I have tried to remain true to this statement
throughout the series, letting the story dictate
what happens.
So, unlike in other books, important characters
die in the Saga,because the story demands their death.
In book 9 it logically made more sense for Mr. Crepsley
to face Steve than Darren or Vancha (for reasons explained
in the book) and so I let him go. I didn't enjoy doing it,
but it was what the story needed.
Of course I could have cheated and let Vancha die instead,
or let none of them die and have them all survive.
But that's not what my books are about.
I always write as if the stories I tell ARE true,
and I don't make decisions based on whether
or not they're going to upset my readers.
I think that's what makes my books different to most others
-- readers never know what to expect from one book to the next.
There's always an uncertainty about who will live
and who will die -- just like there is in real life.
No, Mr. Crepsley will not be making a miraculous return
from the dead. As I state in book 10,
his soul has passed to Paradise and will never come back
to this world. However, I might one day write a few books
about Mr. Crepsley's earlier life, from
when he was first blooded to the night his path
crossed with Darren's and Steve's -- so perhaps we haven't
seen the last of the grumpy old vampire yet!!!!!! :-)
Even in death may you all, like Mr Crepsley, be triumphant!!!
